I THRIVE ON unplanned, unanticipated and unusual experiences which is why I enjoy traveling and chose to live in a variety of places—Portland, OR, Washington, DC, Chicago, Tirana, Albania, and a remote fishing village on Vancouver Island.

Since 2007, I’ve flourished on the Northwest coast at the mouth of the Columbia River where the tides, weather, humans and animals bring change and new discoveries each day.

In the process of creating art, I’ve discovered I need an element in the work that produces unplanned and unanticipated results,

something that allows me to be a catalyst rather than then always in total control. Monotype printmaking offers me the most opportunities of this kind.

I’ve developed a unique printmaking technique that creates unexpected anomalies in the ink surface that are an essential element in my artwork.

I begin with an image in mind, roll out a layer of ink and then manipulate it with a liquid that spreads over the surface like a flooding river, pushing the ink into pools, creating canals and fractures.

These organically shaped anomalies become my guide as I develop a monotype and often lead me in unexpected directions with serendipitous results.

I hope you find my monotypes both surprising and intriguing and discover part of yourself within them.
